Bits of Inspiration
Busy, busy weekend! I spent the weekend down in Port O Connor attempting to fish using Blue Crab. Poor crabs :(
Thought~ How fun would it be to create an inspiration board off the photo of the Blue Crab?
Sounds like my next to do.....

1st Birthday ~ Vintage Pool Party
My baby cousin will be turning ONE this June. Family members asked that I come up with some ideas. I, of course, went full speed ahead. Her first birthday will be a pool party. I must say it was not very simple to find baby geared pool party decorations. Thus, I decided to make a spin on the typical pool party. Vintage baby pool party. Worn fabrics, decorations, food, and toys in pale colors such as sweet salmon, creamy yellow, peach orange, sea foam green, baby blue.
Step #1: Modern Beach Mobile. Instead of bold red, blue and yellow beach balls, I thought the use of pale colored beach balls would be more fitting. I also liked the idea of multi-purposing. Why not use them as a table decoration? A large majority of babies stare a mobiles the first few years of their life. Creating an outdoor mobile out of beach balls in certainly fitting. They won't be able to take their eyes off of it. (Also fun:*Throw in a handmade birthday banner using scrapbook paper and ribbon. Hang it across a fence, tall plants, a set of ladders, or a wall)
Step #2: Table Coverings. Every party has tablecloths. Employing the typical solid color plastic wrap seemed redundant and unoriginal. Why not use actual fabrics that mimic the vintage pool theme? I found remnants in faded striped and polka dotted patterns. Perfection! It would only take a few minutes to refine the ends. If you're not seamstress, fabric glue works wonders.
Step #3: Favors. It's become common for children to leave a birthday party with favors in hand. But how do you provide party favors for one-year olds? There are so many safety precautions one must take. Solution: Food and plastic. I found some-what pale shaded sand buckets (with tools) online. No injury here! Wrapping up Cherrios in cute bags and labeling them "life preservers" is so simple. Add in a baggie of wrapped goldfish and label them "Fish". Through in a pair of cute colorful vintage-style sunglasses and you're done. Bonus: It won't cost you a fortune!
Step #4: Treats. EVERY child must have a birthday cake. Especially at one! What's more precious than watching them dig their tiny fingers into the cake you paid a fortune for? Ah, memories! I like the idea of a simple cake, decorated with shades of polka-dots or stripes matching hand-made table cloths or invitations. In addition to cake, themed cookies add flavor; sunglasses, beach balls, swim suits and trunks in our chosen color palette.
Step #5: HATS! Kids love hats and they look adorable in pictures when modeling them with bright smiles. The hats I found online were hand-made using fabric and ribbon. They were topped off with a fun pom-pom ball. An adjustable ribbon can be used to attach them. Making these by hand allows you to use patterns and ribbons that will reflect and mingle with your theme.

Great Pick from TheKnot
As I was scanning through TheKnot this evening I came upon a current "Eco-Friendly Great Pick". The rich color palette featuring green, bronze and black certainly caught my eye. Not everyone can make green work so well! I immediately fell in love with the wedding cake. It's

Pop the Bubbly!
I found this dress on BHLDN as I was creating my last inspiration board. I immediately thought of popping some bubbly and sitting under a twinkling night sky. Glitter & Glamour! Being a lover of the 1920-1930’s, I simply couldn’t help myself. I love the color of the dress and attention to detail, and wanted the decor in my inspiration board to reflect both. ~ Mission: Embrace timeless fashion with a mix of old world glamour and modern prestige using taupes, beiges, and mixes of rusted silver & gold.
Cigars, vintage champagne glass towers, classic lace stationary, touches of pearls and old novels, and of course, the 1930’s Cadillac to drive away in, mimic the times of yesteryears. Reflections of the past are melded with mordern touches through funky gold chandeliers, a multi-colored fabric bouquet, hand-blown mercury candle sticks and table lamps, and wedding-dress inspired cupcakes. What better way to be a modern bride of the 1930’s?! Ending the night running through a sea of sparklers would only add to the glitter and glamour!

Sweet & Eclectic
The styles and decor of anthropology have been an inspiration to women throughout the world. I love the thought of bringing an anthropology~inspired wedding outdoors. Touches of mismatched dinnerware & furniture, mixtures of bold & pale patterns, trees dripping in chandeliers, and keeping the eye constantly wondering to something new and delightful makes for the inspiration board.
